About Songs For Ceilidh

The Band

Created in 2006, Songs For Ceilidh is a three piece Celtic trio that blends traditional Celtic classics from Ireland, Scotland, and Atlantic Canada with Cape Breton influenced originals into an upbeat fun-filled show. With an ever-growing set list, they cover many of the Irish traditionals, “Whisky in the Jar,” “Black Velvet Band,” “Spancil Hill,” “Star of the County Down,” and write their own music available on CDs and Itunes. Songs For Ceilidh has performed on large stages and festivals with nationally touring acts such as The Glengarry Bhoys and The Town Pants as well as smaller community shows, bars, small house parties, and weddings. You can expect 100% professionalism in everything Songs For Ceilidh does. If you are looking to have a Celtic band that will keep people’s feet tapping, hands clapping, and heads bopping, look no further.

The Music

With a blend of traditional Celtic classics and Cape Breton influenced originals, Songs For Ceilidh covers Celtic music from Ireland, Scotland, and Atlantic Canada. Their interpretation of traditional Celtic classics owes more to Cape Breton influences then it does to traditional Irish. While respecting the original music, their arrangements reflect a modern sensibility and desire to ‘keep it moving’!  Their growing body of original works reflects this same balance of tradition and innovation.  With a high energy spin, Songs For Ceilidh creates an exciting, energy filled atmosphere for everyone’s enjoyment. They have shared the stage with The Glengarry Bhoys and The Town Pants and their name says it all; Ceilidh [Ky-Lee], a foot stomping, high energy, rip-roaring good time!

While they bring a solid repertoire of traditional Celtic classics, don’t expect to hear Danny Boy or Irish Eyes! The band is inspired and influenced by a wide variety of musical acts.  To name jsut a few: Great Big Sea, Bare Naked Ladies, Glengarry Bhoys, Town Pants. The Fables  Lively and fun is their emphasis. Upbeat classics and originals provide a sound that appeals to all, from families in the park on a summer evening to rowdy, late night bar patrons. “We’re looking for people to enjoy themselves and their surroundings. That’s what it’s all about”.

The Equipment

Songs For Ceilidh owns and operates all their own instruments, speakers, sound board, monitors, and lighting.  They pride themselves on being sonically self-sufficient.
